Plantation to Paradise video essay is visual exploration of the vintage travel-ad as a historical document. By re-contextualizing the tourism narrative the series aims to deconstruct
a romanticized plantation era. In this context the vintage travel ad is placed within a historical timeline from pirate tales, to plantation economy, to tourism culture. Charting the
visual narrative from colonization to national identity. Existing precariously as the largest tourist dependent economy in the world, the Caribbean is in a crisis that is literally glossed over with ad-campaigns of 'tropical romanticism.' In the vintage travel-ad we can trace the narrative of the 'paradise myth' to its point of origin.
