Ode to the Belizean Creole Proverb, 2018

At the core of Caribbean culture is the lesson and wisdom transmitted via oral tradition. Many cultural values reside in the Creole proverb, it functions as a vital ingredient in conversation, used for humor, discipline, in arguments and typically remains an unpublished oral history. The proverb in itself must be interpreted, while the Caribbean proverb requires a second layer of translation as it is generally spoken in Creole. As an Ode to the Belizean Creole Proverb I developed a series of posters highlighting the typography and language structure of the Creole proverb. These text-based works are part of the fabric in representing and validating an authentic Caribbean voice.
