HURRICANE 400 Years, Natural and Man-Made Disasters, 2017

Inspired by the Mayan long-count calendar and codices that document historical accounts on folded scrolls, the HURRICANE manuscript features a timeline tracing the frequency of category 4 and 5 hurricanes from 1621 to 2020. The manuscript functions as an interactive long-count tracking yearly hurricane cycles. Providing historical, cultural and official hurricane data, the majority of which have appeared in the last 25 years, undeniably as a result of global warming. Natural and Man-Made Disasters emphasizes the environmental consequences of global warming, and begs the question how do tourist dependent economies survive catastrophe and impoverishment, while the tourist dollar moves on to the next trendy destination?
